Re: Southern Softies 15 to 17 April (Dorset)

An old competition with "Tough Northerners In Vests" to prove how long
you could stand the cold weather before giving up and going back home.

Tough Northerners allways won, must be the hot pies and curries. .

Re: steel seal

My bongo gets air into the system as it warms up, but it has run OK without a thermostat for four months. But as the heater is ineffective its bloody cold.

Is it easy to remove injectors on a bongo?

Dave

As your Bongo appears to run OK without the thermostat, it may not be as bad as you think ...

Re: steel seal

Practically all antifreezes are based on ethylene glycol or propylene glycol.
Ethylene glycol is highly toxic, propylene glycol is far less toxic and must
be used in all applications involving the food industry. HSE regulations.

In America and Asia (Japan), conventional 2 year antifreeze is ...

Re: Surely, Not Another Overheating Post!

50/50 of the pink stuff, changed about 3 weeks back.

Mixing OAT (pink stuff) and conventional antifreeze can cause a reaction
similar to what you have described, causing the whole system to sludge
and produce an oily looking film in the expansion tank. It would take a
couple of weeks to fully ...

Re: Speedo records higher mileage

Providing the speedo is indicating the correct speed in MPH and using the
original Jap speedometer then:

If the maximum indicated speed is 110 MPH it's recording kilometers. (Changed face plate)

If the maximum indicated speed is 180 MPH then it's recording miles. (Chipped)

Re: Fuel gauge & temp gauge both dead!

As g8dhe says above, the instrument panel uses ACC ( IG ) and Ground ( E ) for most of
the supplies on the instrument panel PCB. If these were a problem you would
expect stuff like speedo etc. to also be playing up.

Re: EGR - mine is a little different

Don't know what the lump above the turbo actually does but it's
used to heat or cool something and is generally fitted to the
"Super Economy" engine with the electronic fuel injector pump.

Bottom left hose is coolant flow from cylinder head.

Top right hose is return to thermostat casting.

Top ...

Re: brake bulb keeps blowing

ah, so you have to spend money not use something old
you had lying about.
I'll do that then, cheers.

Sometimes old stuff is better than new stuff.

About a year ago I had a brake lamp fail while camping and replaced it
from a "sell everything" type shop. It lasted about a week. I sorted
through ...

Re: Cooling system flush

Antifreeze is made up of 2 parts, usually ethylene glycol and a
corrosion inhibitor package. Ethylene glycol can remain stable
for 5 years or more but corrosion inhibitors deplete over time
and use. If you use a 25% ratio of antifreeze then you are only
using half the recommended quantity of ...

Re: whistling from fan/alt'/drive belt?

The twisting method works with experience, but to be more precise,

If you have a pair of kitchen or bathroom scales then push down with
your thumb until you read 10 Kilogrammes. Get used to the feel of 10 Kg.

In the centre of the belts between the alternator pulley and the water pump
pulley, apply ...

Re: whistling from fan/alt'/drive belt?

I had same problem, squirt of WD40 stopped it but won't cure it.

Try belt tension and adjust if necessary.

If not:

Incorrect belts may have been fitted, or have worn on the side angle walls.

Fitting a new pair of correct belts usually cures the problem.
