Yes mike, but the B-series Mazda was released in 2.5 litre diesel form prior to the ford ranger, which leads me to believe that the engine block is a Mazda unit. The ford ranger is more popular in the UK than the b-series Mazda, hence why the ranger is used generically for reference.mikeonb4c wrote:I understand they are basically Ford Ranger engines, but with a few minor modifications (extra piping for a rear heater, ?higher compresison head). Hopefully someone else will chime in to confirm/correct that.
Aha! I'm afraid I was only regurgitating what has been said so often on here. So really, what peeps should be saying is 'the engine used in a Ford Ranger', not 'a Ford Ranger' engine.bigdaddycain wrote:Yes mike, but the B-series Mazda was released in 2.5 litre diesel form prior to the ford ranger, which leads me to believe that the engine block is a Mazda unit. and of course, excellent torque which - as Top Gear seem to say from time to time - is what so often gives good performance in the 40-60 speed range where it mattershelen&tony wrote:Hi
The Mazda handbook quotes power as 125ps for the power output of the 2.5 TD.....it is an abbreviation for the German word Pferdestarke...which is German for horsepower....so , it's 125 Hp, or around 92 Kilowatts, (92 from memory)....so, not mind-blowing....pretty normal for an old diesel TD2.5
Cheers
