Sometimes old stuff is better than new stuff.
About a year ago I had a brake lamp fail while camping and replaced it
from a "sell everything" type shop. It lasted about a week. I sorted
through my old stuff that "might come in handy one day" and found
a lamp that was at least 20 years old, fitted it, and it's been OK ever
since.
I think that some cheap lamps are not sealed properly and lose the gas
which prevents the filament from burning out.
