Re: Hook up input socket

If I was fitting a new hookup socket i'd be looking at fitting it to the rear bumper. Much easier to cut the plastic and no worries about sealing metal bodywork and rust.

Re: Adding heating to interior!

Hi Mark, I put a Propex in my van earlier in the year. They come up on eBay frequently, but even older spec models seemed to go for big money when I looked (older versions use a bit more electricity). I phoned Propex to see if they had any factory refurbished units, which they didn't at the time ...

Re: Rear Suspension probs

Bump stops, improved or otherwise, only control the suspension movement at it's extreme and prevent the suspension from banging off of the chassis. Air lifts will effectively stiffen the suspension, improving the handling at all times and keeping the suspension away from the bump stops for the vast ...

On my Bongo, the round switch with the tell-tale light is for my rear fog light.

Re: Undertray R & I

If there is some of the remaining bolt protruding from the back of the captive nut, and there is reasonable access to it - apply lots of heat from a blowlamp then unscrew with a pair of molegrips. Otherwise, drill-out and retap or simply screw a big self-tapper into it!

Window switch fix (DO NOT DELETE)

I recently had problems with my drivers window switch playing up, obviously not an unusual problem! When I stripped it down I discovered that the switch lever/rocker itself (the bit you push & pull) was worn and allowing it to disengage with the switch itself. The lever/rocker has a hole in each ...

Re: Air lift rear suspension - big thumbs up

Forgot to say - if you are fitting the valves at the rear of the step at the side door, there isn't any need to drill holes in the floor as others have done. When you remove the plastic step cover, there is a hole on the vertical panel at the rear of the step (covered with a bit of tape on mine ...

Air lift rear suspension - big thumbs up

After suffering a bit of bottoming-out and general wallowing with my '99 side-converted Bongo, decided that an air lift kit was the answer. Fitted it on Friday and had a 20 odd mile run on Saturday across some twisty roads. Absolutely marvelous!

I initially had the air lifts up at 20psi, with a ...

Re: Knocking sound when idling

well done to the OP for spotting this one. I had identical symptoms and doing a search for the problem was next on my list. Stuck my head under the van tonight and guess what - same problem :D Thanks for saving me loads of time =D> It only took five minutes to stick a couple of grommets in the ...

Re: Paint for grey auto free top roof

I've got a few scratches in my grey AFT too. When I get around to painting it i'm going to do it in silver to match the rest of the Bongo. The grey looks to me as if it has been left in primer!

Re: metal coolant pipes

Such things are commonly used by the kitcar and racing fraternity. Alloy T-pieces are available in various sizes from several kitcar suppliers, try Car builder solutions or Merlin motorsport, or of course eBay.

Re: running temperature

The coolant sensor is in a tee in the top hose. I've read a pile of the discussions on the cooling system and think I've got a reasonable understanding of the setup now, all thanks to the 'wisdom of the forum' :D

Re: running temperature

Same problem on the drive home tonight, 78-82Deg and cold bottom hose. I suspect the problem may still be air in the heater matrix, I'll do another bleed at the weekend.
It really is an annoying cooling system  I suspect it could be sorted with a totally different setup - electric water pump ...

Re: running temperature

My new gauge seems to be working nicely, a great relief to know exactly what's going on!
Only problem is that the engine seems to be running quite cool. Takes quite a while to get up to temperature - in traffic it's around 80-81 and going up one or two degrees if sitting at lights. On the motorway ...
