Location for rear cam/ reversing camera
Hi . I have just purchased a reversing cam and read that it might not work too well through tinted windows. Our rear window is tinted so I'm a bit baffled where to locate it now as I'm unsure how to track the wires to the reversing light. I do not want it on permanently as it is a mirror that has a front facing cam and the rear works as a rear cam and then a reversing cam when needed . So if I wanted it by the number plate, how would I track the wires to the reverse light ..has anyone else places a cam down there and how did you wire it please

I put one where the mirror was

Really neat fit.
Re: Location for rear cam/ reversing camera
Mine is on the top edge of the number plate.
The wire pushed in between the head lining and the trim from the front of the vehicle to the back. Then I just followed other words through the rubber hinge grommet into the tailgate. I removed the tailgate for card and fed the wires through. Connected the power up to the reverse light and feed that up to the same point.
I don't remember any of the path itself being too tricky. I had to lube up the connector to get it to fit through the rubber grommet and I seem to remember having to do a bit of fishing for the wire in the tailgate.

Hi
Do you remember which camera you bought? Can I ask how you mounted it?
thanks
I really like the idea of installing mine where the reversing camera was and that looks great.

I can't recall the exact model of camera I used as I didn't buy it new. It's basically just a wedge mount camera that I attached to the mirror mount (I cut the mirror off and ground it down flat to attach the camera)
I remember that cable was a right pain to run, it has to go across the top of the frame and out a rubber grommet on the right, then you have to fish it down the pillar.

That's brilliant thanks, so did you glue it to the mirror mount? Is the viewing angle ok (because I guess these are designed to be fixed under the horizontal surface above the number plate rather than vertically)?
thanks again

Re: Location for rear cam/ reversing camera
The camera came with some of that double sided 3m tape (similar to what's used on GoPro mounts) and that has held up well so far.
I actually figured it out the hard way about the viewing angle
I had to disassemble the unit and flip the lens 180°.
You can get really wide angle cameras like 170° which might be more suitable.

It has only taken me a few years to get around to replying, but just in case anyone else is doing the same thing....
in the end I did fit it where the mirror was (as suggested by ever after)
I ended up 3d printing a simple blanking plate to stick the camera on, its here if its of use:
