main cooling fan

Post by steve480 » Sat Jan 02, 2010 6:04 pm

hi all,
got a strange problem with the main cooling fan at front of engine. when i turn key to ignition on position the fan fires up every time. got a new head fitted 2 months ago, i ordered a new temp sensor which was situated just at hand brake. this was the wrong part at a cost of £58 from bongobits. sent it back so should get my money back. my mechanic had to solder the temp gauge on cylinder head which if im correct controls the temp gauge inside cab. is there another sensor that controls the main cooling fan & where is it located ??? if i replaced that would it resovle the problem? just replaced altenator as well & was told by auto electricion that my liesure battery is needng replaced. as you can imagine in this cold weather i dont need the cooling fan to start up when i start engine. would appreciate any help thank you. all the best to all fellow bongoiers for 2010.

I have the digital heater / aircon control panel, and if it's set to auto when I switch on, the front fan (A/C fan) kicks in straight away, even if the temp is set to 32°C. Switch it off, and it stops.

Hi Steve,

You have 3No fans 2 on the radiator and a scavenger fan at front of engine compartment.

You also have 3No sensors the one at the hand brake is a air temp switch that controls the scav fan.

The other two are the temp gauge and the cooling fan(s)

Not too sure about the '2 fans on radiator' being the only configuration.
I got a Bongo Friendee Service Manual from BF, and on page 35, it shows a pic of a radiator with 1 full width fan. No idea what vehicle its from but it may possibly be one of the later models. Maybe this is what steve480 has got.

Both the 1995 and the 1997 wiring manuals show 3 fans for all models, two up front on the radiator and the scavenger fan in front of the engine itself all three are controlled by the ECU/PCM which also has signals from the Air Conditioner be it a manual or electronic version.

Any help?

This page actually suggests 2 fans - left and right (as expected.) So what is the pic of?
