Re: Odd temp guage

Better check you waterworks (potential airlocks) so check your coolant levels regularly and as an early post suggest the temp gauge should stay between the 11-12 oclock position after the first mile or so.

Re: Cannot start - battery at 11.3V...

BAttery should sit at 12.25 volts with lights on for around fifteen to 30 mins if fully charged (without engine running.)
with engine running voltage should be between 13.8 and 14.4 volts if charging healthily. it does take ten to fiftenn minutes to replenish the battery after starting- even longer ...

Re: overheating and coolant leak...help please

This thread sounds like my recent experience I had the same symptoms and found eventually a pinhole lleak on the front of the radiator in line with where the main hose is connected on the back ( a usual failure point if system is pressurising) I bought a rethiplacement radiator off ebay for £90 quid ...

Re: Radiator problems and questions

I have recently bought and fitted a new radiator from Budget radiators off EBAy- the radiator has a two year warranty and after having to send the radiator back becuase of damage in transit- I can recommend them as providing no quibble returns etc- I did think my head gasket had gone but with the ...

Re: Nipping wheel arch rust in the bud.......I hope :-)

A handy tip for inspections of small crevices for rust etc is to use a camera phone and mini torch- especially when the images are transfered to a computer.
As for Rust proofing/undersealing I buy the cheap cans of Galvanising spray from Screwfix (about £3.50 per 500ml spray can) and reapply very ...

Re: Alternator or battery fault?

Definitive Battery status:
1.When fully charged and with the engine switched off a DC voltmeter across the positive and negative terminals will read 12 volts to 12.25volts dc.
2. With the side lights on for ten minutes if the battery is in good condition the voltage will remain above 12 volts dc.
3 ...

Re: Alternator?

Before condemning the alternator completely disconnect the battery and check all electrical connections to the alternator are secure. its a simple check and may save you a garage trip

To check the function of the alternator is quite a simple process
With a DC voltmeter- measure the voltage across ...

Re: Leisure Battery - How do i know it is one!! DUH !

Hopefully when you look at your battery it will specify the cold cranking maximum current sometimes listed as CCA if its over 300amps its a normal battery. Batteries are listed by current capacity -typically 105 ampere hours and then a maximum current load eg 320CCA-
whats the difference you may ask ...

battery and alternator

fitting a larger capacity battery will make the alternator work harder. complete rubbish I am afraid.
the larger capacity 12 volt battery eg 100AH will deliver when fully charged, a 50 amp load for two hours.
A 50 AH battery will deliver a 50 amp load for only one hour.
While it is true to charge a ...

Bongo Glow plug issues

This subject is one of those that has been done to death in the forums in the last year or so. The lamp going out is only an indicator for you to start your Bongo after an adequate time yet the Glowplugs will remain energised until an adequate engine block temperature is achieved or the accelerator ...

Waxoil v underseal

Underseal- a hard painted surface that provides a barrier to anything thrown at it. Disadavantages- it can crack after time and let moisture in to corrode your vehicle ,even worse you wont know its going on, Also it doesn't give full coverage. but consider the fact that european cars are generally ...

Since you have added water to your system and may have to replace hoses I recommend that you get your cooling system totally flushed and drained , inspect and replace hoses where appropriate and replace the coolant, ensuring that the correct amount of quality antifreeze is added.

12v power outlets

I did the same I ran cables from the power outlet in the back of the bongo underneath the vehicle into the Non door side wired in another outlet (from ascrapyard) just by the rear air con control- it sounds harder describing it than doing the job actually.
