dropping an engine.
Engine all ready to drop now when new one gets here.my hoist chains have no where obvious to attach. Is it just a case of straps round the engine rather than chains onto a point?

Re: small end bearing or piston slap????
I have rebuilt many engines and done smoke jobs on diesels like head gaskets and other repairs but I'm not a diesel engineer. There is no one near me that i would trust though. All garages around here rip people off. This cane to me after a garage had fitted a new head!

Re: small end bearing or piston slap????
I haven't actually removed the cam yet. That will be my next job! I have just striped the injectors as they were leaking. Cleaned up and reassembled. Re-clocked the fuel pump and still hard to start. White smoke and hard to rev. Oh checked egr also and all free moving.

Re: diesel knocking
Thanks for the great links. When it's running properly i shall replace it all. Hoping to get the dti tomorrow for some fine tuning. Otherwise if it's not pump timing then it's going to be engine out job!
