Re: Full Beam

Sometimes a sharp tap temporally may release the internal contacts ..
Hi Mike,

I was just rereading this and wondering if maybe I misunderstood your post last night. Do you mean that a sharp tap could have caused the problem? And if so, how do you suggest it could be remedied?

Thanks,
Helen

Full Beam

When I turned my headlights on today, the full beam dashboard indicator light came on and I couldn't get the dashboard indicator light to go off regardless of what setting I turned it to. However, the full beams themselves weren't coming on at all. The side lights came on but I couldn't seem to swit...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

I suspect that if there is a problem with the actual head gasket, then it is an issue which has been caused by the original (supposedly specialist) garage that we used a year ago. Three separate mechanics have raised small criticisms of their work, although we initially dismissed the concerns, becau...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

I thought head gaskets were supposed to be a notorious problem on the Bongo? The garage is going to send over full details later I think, cause he asked us to order the parts from "the Bongo Club" (which I assume means Bongo Fury!) When you say one of the few highly credited garages, what ...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

It came as a small surprise, purely because the garage that told us this is 'supposed' to be a Bongo specialist. As complete newb to old vehicles, we naively believed that this problem was not a problem, because our garage told us it wasn't.

Hopefully our new garage will be more reliable and honest

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

Right, after much to do, we finally got the Bongo to the garage recommended to us on the forum. The mechanic was able to give it a quick look over and he says that the head gasket looks damaged and therefore it is likely that the cylinder head is broken too. He said that there was also evidence of l...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

I really hope this question doesn't sound stupid, but will leaving the car stationary without coolant in it cause any issues? We are not going to drive it anywhere, based on the advice of board members, but is it imperative that we sort it out now? Holiday plans mean that we are probably not going t...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

Tank looks empty except for a few mm near the pipes at the bottom. Not enough to cover them though. The top part of the tank has dregs in it which just seem like coffee grounds. We called the garage which was suggested to us by Bongobongo but their expert is away until Monday/Tuesday, so playing the...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

If they understand the cooling system that's fine, and you're right not to name them as at this stage we don't know what has happened. If they're a known Bongo Friendly garage you should be in good hands. Yeh, it is a year since they did that work, so I don't think it is related. My main worry is t...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

Bob, we have been taking our vehicle to the garage in question specifically because it was the nearest "Bongo friendly" garage to us. It is a garage which has been mentioned a lot (not negatively) on these forums, which is why i don't want to name it publicly.

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

I'll go look tomorrow. My partner went out to look whilst I was at work and dipped a skewer or lolly stick in it. The term dregs was used at the time, but he doesn't recall in relation to the pipes which you mentioned. Our tank is very discoloured so it is quite hard to see actual levels. We had the...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

Haydn, thanks for your advice. We will definitely be getting an alarm if the Bongo survives, although it may not if we are going to be looking at £2000 of repairs. The temp gauge never went higher than 10 or 11 o'clock (I believe that the gauges are not that accurate though?). Even after watching th...

Re: Mysterious noise from behind the dashboard

Is it possible to tell if the head is already cracked? We drove for over an hour after the initial incident. Our mechanic assured me that it would be fine to drive it, which I was obviously apprehensive about after your warnings. I posted what he said as it made me nervous, having previously looked ...
