When I turned my headlights on today, the full beam dashboard indicator light came on and I couldn't get the dashboard indicator light to go off regardless of what setting I turned it to. However, the full beams themselves weren't coming on at all. The side lights came on but I couldn't seem to switch to full beams.
Any suggestions?

Maybe a faulty headlight relay .. it is on the N/S inner wing by the plastic water reservoir .. or leisure battery if you have one ..
Sometimes a sharp tap temporally may release the internal contacts ..

Hi Mike,

I was just rereading this and wondering if maybe I misunderstood your post last night. Do you mean that a sharp tap could have caused the problem? And if so, how do you suggest it could be remedied?
Thanks,
Helen

Re: Full Beam
The relay is a a simple heavy duty switch .. works a bit like a Ding ... Dong .. door bell ..
Although covered in 'water proof' rubber .. given the position of the relay boxes they can get water / moister inside that stops them working efficiently .. even overloaded so the contacts 'weld' together ..
A sharp tap may get them working .. if only temporary ..

Re: Full Beam
If the Beam dashboard light is coming on then the problem will be with the head lamp or connector, quite often the lamp connector corrodes then overheats.
If the dashboard light then doesn't go off, then that points towards the relay, so you may have a double fault, blown bulb or bad connector and a relay welded in the on position.

Re: Full Beam
As Geoff says .. the bub holders on the back of the headlights can cause problems .. a simple DIY fix is to fit ceramic bulb holders ..(the Shogun and many other motors use the same H4 Halogen bulbs) ..
