Alernator Identity

1996 cold region 2 x battery, 2.5 TD, 4 x 4 - stumped as no label on alternator - overcharging suspected - has any bongalier got a note of what alternator is LIKELY to be fitted to my model.

theres only one alternator for the diesel. but there are 2 different starter motors , one winter pack and one standard.

ian at bongo fury is doing an exchange on alternators, give fury a ring.

mine is Hitachi LR190731B, and reasonably sure it is original.

make sure you buy the correctly rated one, 90 amp is the gen mazda, some of the cheaper ones advertised on the net for bongo;s are only 80 amps, they usually last 1 year and 1 day on a bongo, just out of warranty. :shock: #-o

Out of interest, how do we know which of the above brands (Hitachi, Elite) is the one fitted as standard by Mazda. I find the alternator market bewildering!

this cheaper recon doesnt deserve the catchy trade name sticker of aapoldham :shock: . andys auto parts oldham. :lol: :lol:

Could it even be both? I've known manufacturers to fit the same component from different sources. Mine looks very original and is Hitachi.Image

looks like you have a pipe missing. :lol: thats the standard and only gen mazda one ive seen on a bongo, the others are usually black banded aftermarket.

specially removed for clarity. It'll still run fine, won't it :lol: When it made the sound of an air cooled Vdub, I knew it was a mistake.

air cooled bongo, now theres a thought, cut out a few of the known problems in one job. 8)
