The topic title says it all really.
With our previous cars (all a lot younger than our 'new' 1995 Bongo) we have relied on mechanics when something has gone wrong. This time we are going to try and do much of the work ourselves ...... within reason.
So, on full right lock we get a slight metallic squeal .... as I've said before, I should probably know what this is and a little voice in my head suggests something to do with a steering bush???
Anyone?
Thanks.
Tony.

Re: Slight 'squeal' on full steering lock
Hi, when in full lock, the power steering is at its heaviest load. I would suggest that the squeal is one of 2 things. Firstly the drive belt is in need of tensioning as it sounds as though it is the belt starting to slip and squeal under load. Secondly that it could be the bearings in the power steering pump, although I would have expected that they would be making the noise all of the time if it was bearings.
I would check the drive belt tension in the first instant as I would guess that is it.
Cheers

or it could be the rack spindle valve.

Just in case they start hunting for a PS belt this vehicle doesn't have one.windywatson wrote:Hi, when in full lock, the power steering is at its heaviest load.
