I've an idea there was a Fact Sheet on oil.
You really need to top up with whatever is already in there as oils aren't always compatible and can cause frothing and block oilways.
Since the oil change is fairly frequent, with the kind of mileage you're doing it may be worth changing the oil then keeping some to top up.
Edit: I suspect the frequency may be less with a V6 petrol than a turbo diesel, but I'd still just change it and keep some of the same to top up.
A Pela Pump makes oil changes a piece of cake.

Your right Bob, if the service interval for petrol cars was 3000 we'd never get anywhere! Even for a turbo diesel its a bit ott, with modern oils its a lot more than 3000 miles, at 321 they have their lubricants made to spec, including engine, transmission and diff, all very technical and there are lots of sheets of data for each type and why its better than that brand etc sure its interesting to someone lol
Curious from that link why they push for 10/30 and say 'you could get away with 10/40'?
