Hi
I have read the posting re petrol guage problems but don't know how to get at (or even see!!) the little plastic thingy that I need to fix/improve earthing.
Can anyone help?

I did one the other day - same procedure to get to it as David says.
To establish that the fault lies in the sender not the gauge, remove the plastic wiring connector from the sender, take a piece of electrical cable, strip the ends about 1/2 inch, and put one end of the cable into the cable which isn't black (forgotton the colour of it) and the other to a good earth. Switch on the "ignition" and if the fuel gauge goes up to full then the fault lies in the sender/or earth.
I then stuffed the bared end of electrical cable into the BLACK cable going to the sender and refitted the plastic connector to the sender unit. I then fitted a small "O" electrical connector to the other end of the "new earth cable" and secured it under one of the sender unit cros headed screws.
The job's a carrot - gauge working
