hissing noise

Post by Jolly Rogers » Sun Jun 03, 2007 3:21 pm

We have just come back from a short trip Falmouth to truro as I got out the bongo I could hear a hissing sound. I lifted up the the drivers seat and there on the right hand side is a large black pipe which seems more swollen than the last time I saw it :( . There is a small hole in it!!! Can anyone tell me what the pipe is and is It something I can just swop over . Or will I need to go to a BF garage :?: Can I just patch it up in the mean time with insulating tape  . Sorry no picture as battery flat on the camera.

Do not try and bodge this hose, It is part of your main top hose and is full of coolant. Suggest you get it fixed asap. Allans of Plymouth will have a replacement and would fit one for you Your cooling system will need PROPERLY bleeding when the job is done. Drive on at your peril and it could cost you a engine

If engine oil could be just a weeping rocker cover gasket if diesel could be loose or frayed feed or return pipe would be worth checking just in case

Don't worry about the black oily muck at the back there. Most Bongos have that there and it won't be a problem, unlike the hose. If you must drive it to a garage do it in short stages and carry plenty of water to top up the system with. Beware of hot coolant under pressure. Sounds like you could be a customer for one of our coolant loss alarm systems.

Make sure you go to a garage that know how to bleed the system and have a hose. Or get a hose yourself and take it with you with full instructions. Bongo friendly is best.

Or drive it carefully and slowly a few miles away from home and then call out the RAC?

Well she is booked into Janners. Fingers crossed just the pipe needs replacing and then new coolant.
