Unpredictable starting

Post by casscasscass » Sun May 13, 2007 6:50 pm

Hi guys I seem to have no notion as to why when :?: I turn the key, wait for light to go off, go to turn final bit and all it does is go 'click'. This is happening daily now and most time it finally turns over after about 7-10 turnovers. Its not just the first start of the day either. And there is nothing but a 'click' no wirr or chug nothing just click. I was thinking starter motor but could it be intermittant electric fault ???(not that I really know much about these things).....thanks Cass :?:

have you checked that your battery leads are connected tight?

Many posts on this subject already on the forum.

Easiest to check is the main engine battery and/or its terminal connections.

However, the odds are that you will need to recondition the contacts on the starter motor.

I had the same problem. It was the starting motor that I had replaced with a reconditioned one last week at a cost of £65 + VAT. Starts every time now

Some people have managed to strip the starter motor and do a DIY repair at low cost. Are you 'handy' or do you have a friend who is and who might help?

I had the same problem until recently. All I did was remove the starter motor, which wasn't that difficult, dismantled the solenoid, and cleaned the contacts. Bongo starts first time every time now, but I know it's only a temporary cure as the contacts were well worn. Soon, when I have found out what model of starter motor I have, I will be contacting this company

http://www.nationsautoelectric.com/densoparts.html

to get some new contacts, and then I will replace the old ones.
