No heat from front blowers
I have a 1999 2.5 td and I'm not getting any heat from the front blowers, sometimes very lukewarm if set to 32, digital controls
I've done a coolant change
I've flushed through front matrix
Cleaned the cabin sensor
Anyone any other ideas ?

Re: No heat from front blowers
It is probably a faulty rheostat, otherwise known as a fan-speed resistor. It's found behind the large air intake under the bonnet. You can get new ones from Bongo land at https://bongoland.co.uk/product/heater- ... e-control/
Or second hand from Bongospares.

Re: No heat from front blowers
The fan works fine and changes speed according to the setting
Re: No heat from front blowers
The hot water from the engine should always be flowing thru the heater matrix, and the amount of hot air is controlled by the flaps. Most common cause is the heater matrix being blocked as it has very fine tubes, when you flushed it did you get a good water flow in both directions. The only other thing could be the coolant isn't hot enough, has the engine been running long enough and is the coolant temperature meter showing normal level?

Re: No heat from front blowers
Yes I got good flow through the heater matrix when flushing through both forwards and in reverse
Yes upto temperature and the needle stays at 11 o'clock
Could it be the thermostat stuck open, would that cause loss of heat

Re: No heat from front blowers
Check the temperature of the two pipes that feed the front heater matrix, if they are both cool to the touch, when one should be hot/warm then it might be the thermostat, but that would normally also cause the meter to read lower than normal, not the 11 Oclock position.
Also check that the adjuster flap on the passenger side is being adjusted to control the heat from the matrix into the mixer box, its a single wire linkage high up under the console driven by a servo, the wire link has been known to get disconnected/broken and hence not adjusting the flap inside.

Re: No heat from front blowers
Will have a look at the linkage tomorrow
Thankyou for the reply

Re: No heat from front blowers
Checked linkages and both sides appear to be working fine
I'll take temperature readings from matrix hoses and radiator hoses in morning

Re: No heat from front blowers
Drove for 30 mins, temperature gauge reached 11 o'clock after 8 mins and remained there throughout the journey
Different modes worked off the digital controls , feet, windscreen etc
Went to air con and recirc at 18 degrees
Got some very lukewarm air at 21 degrees and no change up to 32 degrees
Top radiator hose read 65 degrees with infrared thermometer
Bottom radiator hose was 33 degrees
Top front matrix hose 52 and bottom matrix hose 46
Hope somebody can make sense of this and diagnose why I have no heat
Thanks

Re: No heat from front blowers
Merry Christmas.
Take this with a Pinch of salt as I have never measured these myself but I think those temps seem too low.
I would have expected in temps on both the Rad and heater matrix to be more like 90 deg at least if fully warmed up. 52 isnt going to give you a lot of heat
So maybe you are looking at a stuck thermostat. Though I cant explain the normal temp gauge reading.
The thermostat should not even be open at 65 deg so the fact your getting flow into the rad at then temp also indicates Thermostat.
sounds like you have already flushed the system so cant be that pulse your getting a good temp drop across the Rad.
