Non-standard diesel injector pump?

Post by MWADE » Thu Nov 10, 2022 11:59 am

Just recently bought my bongo, I think there's an air leak somewhere in the system because when starting from cold the engine needs to turn over for quite a long time before starting. Can't see any obvious leaks, but looking at it, it looks totally different from all the pictures of pumps I see on here (and the internet in general), however, it looks "stock" with all standard plugs, connections etc...

Can anyone help me identify it?

Welcome aboard!

Which model of the Bongo range are you, most on here are Friendee's or Ford Freda's ?

On series 4 diesels like yours the fuel pump is radically different from earlier versions.

This is the early one: http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... no=.html#2

This is the later one: http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html

That's great info! thanks!

Are there are any known weak points that i should consider investigating first to find my suspected air/fuel leak?

If you disconnect an injector pipe crank engine you should get PRESSURISED fuel, if so, look elsewhere. If not, you could carry out a pressure test to the fuel line and or fit a none return valve as close to the IP as possible.

Personally, I would recommend a wee visit to a Diesel Specialist, it could save you in the long run.

Health and Safety must be adhered to. good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I'll start as you suggest with checking for fuel pressure when cranking from cold and see where that takes me.. Cheers!
