coolant alarm issue

on the topic of the epic service, mind the coolant alarm i installed, well lets see if anyone has a clue as to whats going on with this one.

All seemed well test n all that but bizzarely when i screw the screw half way in with no coolant in the bloody thing stops beeping and flashing, nothing,
starts to go quieter then after about 5cm it just stops.

i cannot for the life of me figure this out, test button still activated and it works when not in the tank but half way in, sweet F.A.

Anyone any ideas???? as i now basically have a fancy flashing light and beep on command but no protection from the dreaded coolant fail.

Is the screw hitting an internal bulkhead or summat?

its bizzare its when i get to a certain point and it just stops. I ddnt feel that i had hit the internal bulkhead when screwing, and it did it when there was no coolant in it

Amazing the seller got back to me he also thinks its an internal baffle i am hitting thats causing resistance. looks like i'll be drilling another hole not sure how i'll plug the old one, maybe just get another screw and leave that one where it is also noticed the lesiure battery backet at back is snapped so i'll have to weld that or make another and just to add insult to injury got a brake light out, turns out that the lights been whacked befor and there's a great big hole at the top letting water in so i've bodged it for now with the lid off a sheeba catfood tinny thing and some of that silicone based sealant i had left over from the sump sealing
just glad the rest is finished tho

Why would hitting a baffle affect the resistance, must be a hell of a long screw.

@knpenny. Can’t you use a shorter screw rather than drill another hole?

On that type the screw goes in from the top and reaches down to the correct level for the tanks its being fitted to .... unless as you say it hits the side of a baffle plate and shorts out on the deposits on the baffle plate.

It wouldn’t Short out on deposits otherwise the normal screw would Short on the inside of the drilled wall. I think!!

Yer your right there Haydn, but it must be something on the surface which is conducting back down to the chassis by some means!

I see. I’ve not seen anything other than the Haydn on which I’d fitted on mine. I’ll leave this thread to the experts and learn

There should be no need for the bottom screw or wire. Just earth the bottom wire to the chassis..
