V6 Will not start

Post by newbongoowner » Fri Apr 06, 2018 11:56 pm

Hi everyone

Had the bongo since end of season last year and no problems until today, after a 40 min drive it failed to restart after being turn off for 5 minutes. No dash light at all and no cranking of the engine. Tried jumping off my work van too but nothing. Changed 100a fuse no change.

I think it points to a flat battery (new 5 months ago but on charge as I type) but cant jump it and surely dash lights would light up even if there dim but nothing at all.

Headlights/wipers/indicators were working

Heating module on dash lights up but when I turn the ignition key to position 2 to start/crank it turns off completly.

Seen a few posts regarding the solenoid in the starter motor could need replacing but would still see dashboard lights?

No alarm or immobiliser installed but the leisure battery seems to drain quite quickly, thought it was the new head unit so installed a seperate rocker on/off switch.

Any help would be much appreciated

Could be a number of things and this is just a long shot but... when you have the battery fully charged and refitted to the van and if that alone has not cured the problem, then take the jump lead and clip onto the negative battery post and connect the other end to a good earthing point on the engine itself, connect two leads together if you need the extra length. Try that first to eliminate a poor/broken earth.
Is the 100 amp fuse the OP refers to the fusable link?
Does the Bongo even have one?

Thanks for the reply

I am not sure what you mean regarding the 100a fuse? I changed it as i assumed that with not dash lights or solenoid click that there must be no power at all going to the starting circuit.

As above, also check battery connections and ignition relay.

Thanks for the replys

Got an auto electrician out in the end and it turned out to be a blown 15a fuse below the dashboard, it was marked as 'meter', as soon as it was changed started on the button.

Going to carry a small multi meter and many fuses from now on, lots cheaper than £130!!
