Fog light help for MOT

Post by Katka » Mon Jun 12, 2017 3:10 pm

Sadly, our 'van sadly failed its MOT this morning, primarily due to a leaky exhaust..... That's easily fixed, but the tester also wanted to see a tell-tail to show when the rear foglight is on. I took the switch out and there is a tiny bulb in it, which I tested and found to be working but so faint it is barely visible. Is this bulb a tell-tale or an illumination so that the switch can be found in the dark? If it's not a tell-tale, has anyone fitted one? If so, what's the best way to do this, or is a trip to Halfords for a new switch with a suitable bulb in it needed?
The good news is the tester commented on the good condition of everything else he saw.

Its a trip to Halfords or similar for a new compatible switch.(the light is a tell tale function )

Good Luck.

Or you could just buy a dash board light form any car shop and take a live feed from the switch and earth the other side.

Should be cheap enough.

Success. I popped into a Mazda dealer who found a switch & bulb in a discard bin but it too was too dim to be seen, so as suggested I put an LED across the switch terminals which did the trick. Thanks for the pointer. The main reason for MOT fail was a leaky exhaust, which they welded this morning and we now have a nice pass certificate, and a quiet Freda too.
If you are in the Guildford area and are looking for a reasonable garage, they not Bongo specialists (yet) but seem to know their stuff, Pantech on the A3 are worth a try.
