Alternator
My poorly Bongo is in need of a new alternator (it has been tested so I'm certain this is the problem!) and is currently parked on a friend's driveway in Cambridge. Does anyone know a mobile mechanic who could fit a new alternator onsite? Or would it need to go to a garage? It's a slightly long and complicated story and I'm trying to find the easiest solution! Thank you, in hopeful anticipation!

This is a fairly simple diy job, and someone very recently sourced one and posted details on here.
I've a good idea there's a Youtube vid, too.

Re: Alternator
Could the battery be charged so it could get to a nearby garage? I drove my diesel all the way from stourport to Manchester with a u/s alternator.

Thanks both. I don't live in Cambridge and the complicated circumstances mean that getting the Bongo to a garage, though possible as you suggest, is tricky. Hence the hope for a trustworthy mobile mechanic.

Not a recomendation, I know nothing about them, but this came up.

You could get the correct alternator delivered to the houuse then arrange to have it fitted.

Thanks, Bob, I found them too and might give them a ring. Ordering one is. great idea, too. In other circumstances I'd love to have a go at DIY with the friend whose drive it is on, but sadly illness means that can't happen this time.

Re: Alternator
make sure its rated at 90 amps, theres several out there that are pretending to be that are actually lower, 80 amps usually last a year then fail.
theres seval good local bongo owners that may see this, come on lads.

Hi kmh
Just an idea but get the alternator and see if the AA / RAC will fit it
As a breakdown call out

Re: Alternator
Our alternator went in Scotland a few years ago when on hols. AA sourced one from a breakers fitted it and it's still fine now.
