I'll get my coat!!
I think the original requirement is to provide good cooling for the autobox when towing. In the 80's and 90's it was perceived wisdom to add addtional cooling for autobox towing. My every day temps/cooling is spot on.
Heavy loads eg towing up hills / mountains does increase the temp to the extent i might investigate this with the intent of using a James Bond style rotating number plate. (vertical to horizontal only)
Personally I would leave the cooling/heating system to do the job that it was designed for. Needing extra cooling for the auto box if you do a lot of Towing I would fit an uprated cooler in the ATF system.
Good Luck.
I have left the cooling / heating system to do the job it was designed for alone
Not done any mods to the cooling system
I do a lot of towing and have fitted a 13row cooling rad on the ATF system
I've fixed this in front of existing rads
And moved the number plate to the side to give the rads more air flow
This has resulted in a 7c drop in head temp
Just thought I'd let you all know
Might just be more airflow through the engine bay which is dropping the sensor temp
I didn't feel if the handbrake / engine cover was any cooler will check this weekend
And see if the water temp from rad to engine is any cooler
