Roof AFT problems

Apologies if this has been covered before.
1997 AFT diesel auto.
When I try to raise the AFT absolutely nothing happens.
I have checked the handbrake switch which is fine. I have checked the 30amp fuse no. 12 its fine.
There is no bleep and no voltage drop across the battery.
Any ideas?

Where are you based? I had similar woes ans was forever grateful i could take it to Adrian at Japandirect in Bury, who was able to sort it as he has proper hoisting gear.

Try taking th switch apart. I did it to mine a couple of weeks ago as i had a similar issue, it was gunky, same as blind switches. Cleaned out with contact cleaner and it works a treat.

Does the Handbrake light come on on the dashboard? If not then that is the cause of the problem, after that suspect the roof up/down switch.

How did you fix it Derek - mine's going a bit dicky in damp/cold weather generally

Success. Removed switch and disassembled. Contacts were dirty and smothered in grease.
Everything cleaned, reassembled and now working..

Excellent. You've done me a favour as now i can service mine! Does the switch prise out of the headlining easily? Is it straightforward to take it apart?

Yes the switch comes out easily. If you press it either way you can we the tab at the other end which holds it in. I pulled the tab back with a small screwdriver and pulled out easily.

Mike,have you done your blind switches? It is exactly the same inside, a lovely thing to do as it is 10 mins to do and fixes a problem, not often the case with other jobs!

Yes i did them (the dash master switches) several years ago BUT just swapped existing for replacements i'd bought so never actually tried opening up and cleaning the old ones. Is it easy to do? One thing i'd like to do is fix the bulb in one of those switches though if i can get all four working there ought to be two with working bulbs!

Lots of fettling to keep me busy in retirement

I use my blinds now almost every time i park up, just to keep everything exercised. Not so practical with the roof mind you!
