Confused about steering wheels
HI,
I have read loads of posts on here about replacing your steering wheel and now I am slightly confused. I have a '95 Freda with no airbag, the wheel is falling apart so I am looking to replace it. I have looked in to various options and I think the easiest and most cost effective is to replace with an aftermarket wheel and boss.
My questions is, will the boss fit straight on with no modification? I have seen a lot of talk about having to modify to make the indicator cancelling function work, but is this only on airbag models so not applicable to my van?
Here is a a boss I have seen on eBay, it says it will fit non-airbag Mazdas (including the Bongo) so will it fit my van straight up no modification?

Thanks Mike

If your steering wheel is suffering from separation , the might be helpful.

Thanks Helen, I'll give it a try. I have seen a couple of threads with you talking about your wheel, did you have to modify your boss to get the indicators to work?

Re: Confused about steering wheels
That's excellent to hear. The other thing I have heard concerns about is clearance over the control stalks so your hands don't bash them while steering.
How dished is your wheel Helen? Would you be able to post a pic so I can get an idea of how it looks once change please?
Thanks Mike

Hi
Mine's fairly flat because I fitted a quick-release steering wheel boss on top of the other one. I'll post pictures later
Cheers

Hi
Here you go, a picture of the wheel:

It's had quite a few modifications to the interior and exterior since that pic!....oh, and the steering wheel was a limited edition re-issue of a particular classic...superb wheel!
Cheers

That looks great! I have been toying with the idea of a wooden wheel as I think they look ace. I like your wooden look dash surround as well.

Hi
I imported it from Japan...they aren't made any more, so I had it made as a one-off......It was VERY pricey....
Cheers

Re: Confused about steering wheels
Hi Bob
Thanks...but worth it depends on the viewpoint!
...
The thing is, I could have bought a Bongo from JAL fully converted for what I've spent on the vehicle (excluding what I paid for it), on the premise that I'd keep it 'till I stopped driving....HOWEVER, I now have a string of disabilities that should stop me fiddling with it
, but I still tend to work on it, and suffer for days on end...Every year I strip the underseal off the arches, re-seal, and every 2 years it gets a FULL waxoyl...it's a '95 with no rust!...I'm now on my own with 2 very large GSDs and sleeping inside is a squash....the dogs weigh more than I do!....
....I NEED a larger vehicle for long trips!....
Cheers
