she climaxes but won't come back down...

Post by ned » Sun Feb 04, 2007 8:43 pm

...that probably got your attention. Picked up the bongo at the airport today on return from hols & driving back through cornwall, whilst accelorating up a hill at about 75 - ish, it suddenly "kicked down" and started screaming at me at nearly 5000 revs but wouldn't stop, the only way i could get back into top gear was to take foot off accelerator. All the way home this kept happening only when over 60 mph usually on hills however would not come out of "kick down" even when over other side of hill, only way was to take off accelorator. Had no probs though when on slower roads went through lower gears absolutely fine...

please, please, please tell me i just need to put air in the tyres or fill up the washer bottle the holiday has already cleaned me out!

Any advice would greatly appreciated

you havent pressed your hold button in have you?, it on the gear stick too, normally the light will come on on the dash saying hold. and it will change to the next lower gear and it will stay on untill you press the button again

Get the gearbox oil drained, filter cleaned and refilled - should sort it out..........

Just go easy on the right foot, if the engine is over revving then take your foot off - 'common sense' or what. :?

Sounds like your gearbox is going into default mode which signifies a fault. Does the hold light flash when this is happening?
To fix it you will need to find and interpret the fault code and I would suggest taking it to an autobox specialist. There is no way to tell if it is large or small problem without correct diagnosis and you could be pouring good money after bad. The codes are stored in the electronic wizardry and I seem to remember that the manual covers this. Hope you had a good holiday and that it is easily sorted.

mine does this intermitantly so I ran a search and sure enough it had come up before on BF and as dandywarhol said it was the gear box oil needing changing and filters cleaning....mine,s is booked in for a full service ...

...Thanks for the input guys, i think i'll try process of illimination and get that oil changed and filter cleaned, we're planning a big trip to France later in year so any servicing work will be a bonus. If that doesn't work then the diagnostic check as "Bumbly1" suggests, cheers

We have had a slight problem with gear change up hills, we have had the gearbox oil a changed, filter cleaned etc. I think the problem is a electrical contact, I think that when the bongo is at a certain angle going up hills that something disconnects, I usually park facing downhill and on the occaisions I have parked uphill, I get the hold light fashing and silly gear changes. My theory is a wire in the speedo is loose, but I have not dared to check behind the speedo yet

I could be wrong here Pete but it was my understanding that it is the gearbox that sends the speed to the speedo head not the other way round as you suggest. Normally I would have suggested a problem with the adjustment on the kickdown cable but I still haven't got my head around this 'hold' feature on the Bongo box yet. If it is an electrical fault I would suggest it is in the box not the speedo.
