Starter Motor Refurbished

Post by Fassi » Wed Oct 14, 2015 4:51 pm

Bought the kit for this some weeks ago but never got round to doing it. Anyway, this morning I was just getting clicks when trying to start the Bongo and it eventually kicked in but just envisaged this scenario every day. Decided to refurb the starter this afternoon. Hardest part was getting the 3 bolts loosened that hold it in place. Once I removed the backing plate it was easy to see the pitting and burnt marks on both contacts and the plunger. All swapped out now and the bongo back to starting like Usain Bolt. Happy days.

I've never done it to my Bongo but my Toyota uses a very similar starter and the same kit ..

A cheap (relatively) easy fix .. yet some people pay garages £100ss to fit a new starter motor ..
JAL Mushroom roof,12/240v, fridge, cooker, sink, LPG V6 .. (written off @ £5500 Nov 2016)

Think I'm resigned to the fact that there will always be jobs needing done and will never complete the rolling list

Somehow though, these fab and eccentric vehicles seem worth it. As much a hobby as a means of transport (and more)
