Post by redz79 » Tue Jul 28, 2015 5:31 pm

hi all
for some reason my drivers side front indicator has stopped working, its not the bulb, but the side light bulb on the same side is flashing instead, the meter says no power at the indicator bulb socket,any ideas ?.

I would suspect the earth connection for the lamps, if it lifts from ground then the indicator current will be flowing back down via the sidelights, which being lower power will flash more clearly than the indicator bulb itself.

thanks for the reply, I figured on it being some kind of earth issue, now to find the earth connection or maybe just make a new earth point, it took me some time to find the way into the bulb, It looked like the headlight unit had to come out !!. I removed the mazda dvd player out of the van at the weekend maybe that upset something, that was just a block connector.

The wiring diagrams have an earthing points page, both side lights and indicators use point 1 (JC-01);

Hi
thanks for the diagram, it is an earth problem, I ran a new earth to a bolt under the bonnet, cut the green earth wire on the bulb holder and spliced the new earth in , put the bulb back in and nothing !!, so I trapped an earth wire down the side of the bulb in the holder and touched it to earth, the we have a flashing bulb, so it looks like a bad earth in the bulb holder, now the fuse has blown, next question , which fuse is it ?, I have the owners hand book that just tells me where the fuses are .

It's worth printing the factsheet off and tucking it inside the handbook in case you blow a fuse on your travels: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... usebox.pdf

Hi
thank you for all the help, its all fixed now, new earth wire spliced in and a dodgy bulb holder seemed to be the problem , no corrosion in the holder, the terminals are very flimsy, gave them a clean and bent them out a little and alls well, need to get a selection of spare fuses , what size fuses do you suggest.

See the fuses on the "Fuse Type" Tab here http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm
Also Ian does a set in the shop of the smaller fuses.
