V6 exhaust gas recirculation.

Post by Rapidair65 » Tue Jun 09, 2015 6:11 pm

After looking at the parts diagrams, it appears that our 1998 V6 has an EGR system fitted. Is there any benefit from blanking or removing this system and will it affect the MOT emissions test?

I think it's a crankcase and petrol vapour recirulation system. The diagram shows no obvious take off point on the manifolds: http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

This shows the carbon canister and associated pipework: http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... 02.html#16

This is the vacuum and cold start/air con solenoids: http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... f02.html#1

Now I look at the parts diagram, you're probably right Simon. Although the parts list does mention exhaust gas recirculation, there doesn't appear to be any connection to the exhaust. It is probably a crankcase breather system.

Ye, not the same type of system as the EGR on a diesel engine. Leave well alone, the system is more of a breather system burning off any crank case fumes etc, so I've been lead to believe by my garage when I asked about EGR blanking.

Just a regular PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system found on most petrol engines ..

Just check the one way valve and pipe work is clean that's about it ..

Thanks everyone! I was checking all the pipework under the van and couldn't figure out what this sytem was. I can tell you, the Bongo has more pipes than an Airbus engine!
