Easy way to replace gear strip bulb

Post by jimmo62 » Thu Mar 05, 2015 6:38 pm

The bulb which illuminates the gear indicator strip on the centre console has blown, is there an easy way to get at it to replace it - I don't seem to be able to lift the moulding which holds it out. Do I need to remove the gear selector knob?

Have you removed the centre console & checked if it's accessible? Ignore the wires towards the bottom of this picture, but you can see 4 that go off under the silver surround. They may be something to do with it. You can also see how the silver part clips over the inner part so I would imagine you would just need to pop that off.

Thanks Simon - I did try unclipping all the clips around the silver piece but it would then move a bit but I could not lift it off.

I followed the wires to the bottom of the bulbholder hoping it would just pull out but no luck.

I will try taking the gearshift knob off next!

I dont think removing the knob will help as its not really anywhere near the bulb. Diagram may help: http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

Actually looking at my own photo's you don't need to remove the cover itself, from the drivers side simply release the brown holder which should be in the hole where I have run the extra wires I needed;

you should then be able to replace the lamp and re-insert it, twist to lock in place.
