I have had to buy a secondhand tailgate lighting cluster to replace the damsged one on my van. During removal of the old one I had to disconnect the two outer lighting clusters wiring as there are bulbs in them. That came as a surprise as they had never illuminated. The van passes MOT tests as all of the essential lighting in the rear lighting (each corner) work ok. When I fitted the replacement reflective strip I ensured that I fitted new bulbs and when I carried out my lighting check they still didn't illuminate. So my question is when should these be lighting up? I thought that it could be possible that they are rear fog lights. But my van had to have a fog light fitted when inported to comply with uk requirments, which wouldn't have needed if these were fogs. Answers please ad it's been bugging me for a while now.
Cheers
Richard.

Which bits in the light cluster do you mean? Are they the tailgate ones? If so, only one bulb on each end should come on with the side lights.

Hi Simon,
Thanks for the response.
it is the lights on ether end of the tailgate cluster as shown in the diagram, so from what you say they should be on when the side lights are on. But they're not, so I'm wondering if there is a brake in the wiring some where. I shall have to get my multimeter out and do some testing. Thanks for the help. By the way where did you find the exploded diagram that you posted?
Cheers
Richard.

Yep, the invaluable Lush Projects website (do we know who is behind that as we'd be really stuffed without it
).
This is the page in question: http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... 2of03.html
Do the number plate lights work ok? If they do, you could always wire the two sidelights to that wiring.

Re: New shape rear tailgate lighting cluster.
Actually the Lush site is a "grab" of the Electronic Product Catalogue, which has then had some of the russian phrases translated but not all
You can find the same data at this site and several others that run the same EPC http://mazda.epcdata.ru/ after putting in your VIN click on one of the links (best to translate) below the results, they are not identical as they are running later versions of the EPC.
A couple of weeks ago when I had some time I had a check around for another VIN site, and found a couple of them which are associated with the EPC, I then went on a trawl for the EPC data itself and initially found the CD's! Only to find that after installing copies that they were the European versions with the vehicles that had been imported
See http://www.mazdabg.com/ftp-uploads/Mazda/ Couldn't find any sources of the original Japanese right-hand EPC although there were links to sites which claimed to have them ... but only after you had downloaded and installed their loaders..... no way (loaded with malware so not giving any links)!
Should the Lush site ever disappear then I have taken steps to ensure we don't loose the data ...
