Juddering

Post by stpn666 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 6:08 pm

I hope that someone can help me with some suggestions or advice when I am driving my bongo at between 55mph and 60mph I get a juddering which seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle the steering wheel also vibrates then when I reduce speed it disappears but comes back at 40mph can anyone suggest what it could be please.

Kind regards

Could be that your wheels are out of balance.
Might be worth having them done at your local tyre depot as it doesn't cost a lot to have done

That's where I would start. :)
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Have you got genuine Mazda alloys or aftermarket ones? I've had both and even the proper fitting Mazda wheels when correctly balanced can give a bit of a wobble over 60 mph. Aftermarket wheels tend to be universal fit and will require spigot rings if the bore diameter is greater than the spigot on the hub.

The first thing, make sure that the wheel nuts are tight then get the vehicle to a garage. Don't take risks with this type of fault..

Also make sure you have the right wheel nuts as well, normal bongo wheel nuts are not suitable for alloy wheels.
Lost without my Bongo.

Is it a f/w/drive?if balance and wheels are ok it may be a drive shaft fault or prop shaft fault
Also check there are no brakes staying on?

I had same problem, spigot rings solved it for me. Steering wheel shaking was bad around 65mph.

I ordered a set from eBay, took a bit of a chance on the size - they were described as for a Bongo and I know the inside was the required diameter - I just didn't know the exact inside dia of the alloy wheel. Anyway, I think they were £5 delivered and fitted perfectly.

It depends if it's a full drive shaft you fit or a joint.you can replace joints on prop shafts but there are suppliers who will replace or refurb your prop ,places vary in price got to shop about
