put 12 v to it to test it is still working if it is then you could repair it. i use roll pins, put a small one in the hole then a larger one over the top rotated 180 deg so its airtight, then refit the pipe.

I think there are two types of vacuum solenoids as I recall.

Gasy.... yep Langtoft in the heart of the rolling Fenland countryside.
Thanks for your replies. My mechanical neighbour is attempting a "repair" but I've ordered a workshop manual as I think Bodgit&Scarper (the previous owners of my Bongo) have done all sorts of things to the engine. There are broken/disconnected vacuum pipes all over the place and they've fitted an afterglow - probably to get over the cold start problems I'm having. BTW the brakes are OK so can't be too much leakage.
Reluctant to start, smokes like hell, lumpy running for 10-15 seconds - once warmed up and moving runs lovely. Compression OK, (one cylinder about 50psi down), glowplugs all work fine out of the vehicle (one is black, running cold in that cylinder?) and getting 12v to the rail.

Hmmm. I just got 4 new glow plugs. Of the 4 removed, the working ones all had soot on them and the duff one was a light colour rather like a spark plug. Engine running fine, mpg excellent and switched off warm after a decent run. Not what I'd have expected but...langtoftnick wrote:Gasy.... yep Langtoft in the heart of the rolling Fenland countryside.

Hi langtoftnick, could you tell me what figures you got on the compression test?
