Recirculate lever jammed

Post by garethjr » Tue Jan 13, 2015 10:14 pm

Hello all,
I have just noticed that our recirculate / outside air lever is jammed in the recirculate position. I don't think this has been moved since we got our Bongo in September, but we probably didn't notice then because we had the windows open!

I don't want to try to force it across and break it -has this happened to anyone else? How did you resolve it?

It's making life difficult because we are recirculating the same moist air all the time, so the windscreen takes ages to clear even with the aircon on.

Thanks,
Gareth :D

Can't say I've had this problem, but the glove box comes out really easily.

Just open it and press the two sides together, it drops further and lifts way, you may be able to reach in and have a firkle behind the control.

However, I'm not going out in this weather to check.

manual controls?
do they move without changing direction, or are the levers jammed

the rod can pop out (the little restraining bit of plaky has broken on mine and has popped out frequently.

You're right about the weather, it was snowing here earlier!
Yes it's manual, the lever doesn't move at all. I'll have a look from the glovebox end and in the driver's footwell on Saturday to see what's in there.

Thank you both,
Gareth

Let's hope for an easy/cheap fix. :)

open bonnet, remove air intake (big thing across middle of engine bay), push flap back. it will be stuck on it's seal.
now go wiggle the knob to get it all moving again.

refit is reverse of removal. :D

That sounds like the winter / summer flap fitted to some models which just diverts some of the incoming air away from the cabin intake. As I read the original post, it's the recirulation lever on the manual climate control panel on the dashboard. That's more likely to be a mechanical linkage failure on the side of the heater box.

Welcome to the forum. It's a wealth of useful (and useless) info :).

nope, that flap is lower down. and controlled by a lever on the side of the airbox if the vehicle is fitted with it, not all are.

the flap that the lever attaches to closes the intake off so it draws back from the cabin, it is right at the top of the airbox.

yes it might be that the push wire is gummed up. it may need lubrication, but you aren't going to move a stiff wire with the tiny little knob.
the linkage on the side of the airbox is fairly simple, not much to go wrong there, but that should be apparent if the flap doesn't move when pushed.

I'm impressed by your knowledge and unflappability - must be the novocaine =D> 8)

Thank you all, I'll have a look tomorrow, it wouldn't have occurred to me that it would be jammed under the bonnet, but then I'm used to cars where you can't get at anything under the bonnet and need a mechanic for everything!
It never ceases to amaze me how many people on the forum are willing to help.
