If you get under vehicle - loosen engine cover on passenger side - it's right there.

Shake the pipe see if it makes a noise - if so rubber mount has gone. (Used one from air scoop as a temp measure - until I source a supplier!!)

Mine was intermittent at first....then annoyed the hell out of me!!

Worth a shot.

Does this thread and pics describe what you are referring to?
I found this made a hollow knocking sound at idle and switch-off, worst when engine properly hot

That's the one! Great find.

Now where to get spare anti vibration bushes.

Hope you get it sorted.

Well I got underneath the bongo last night, located that bolt and removed it to check. It's a little worn but basically in OK shape. I started the engine and the noise remained. IO put the bolt back and the noise continued, so, unfortunately for me it's not the solution to my problem.

I think I'm going to have to get it into a garage to have it checked out. :(

That is probably your best bet, it could also be the cam belt tensioner that is on the road out ."this type of noise is Usually a warning"

Well, Frosty is fixed and back on the road!

I took it to ACH Autos in Telford (excellent garage for all makes of cars) and they diagnosed the Crank Pulley as being the culprit. A local Mazda dealer quoted them almost £300 for the part which we all agreed was way over priced. I shopped around and got one for £125 from Auto Jap Spares on ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-1 ... TQ:GB:1123

They despatched it same day (awesome service) and ACH fitted it for me the day after.

Both firms 100% recommended in my opinion.

ACH showed me the pulley that had come off, the bonding had started to deteriorate and come apart which mean the pulley had pushed back against the engine and it was that that was 'twittering'.

Thanks everyone who helped with this thread.

Yup, that's the fella.

Mine didn't look quite so bad as yours, but it was definitely coming apart and there was a visible fresh metal scoring on the inside edge.
