whilst changing the gearbox oil on muzzes S reg diesel we ranged through the gears and park etc and noticed that a relay on the drivers side inner wing was activated with every stick movement to and from every selection. this is a new one on me, anyone any ideas what its doing
Well here they are, they're tucked away beside the starter battery. There are three, the one nearest the headlamp does all the clicking when the gears are worked.
Maybe the inhibitor relay that stops you starting the engine if its not in P or N ??
Thats the only relay i can think of off hand that would be operated when the gear lever is moved.
On the later ones, I think ours was one of the first, there's a gear indicator on the dash as well as the gear selector. Not that relays would be needed but might it be connected with this?
Sorry lads only just found this been using the tablet all week and not the laptop;
The starter relay is in that position (or should be they can be moved around of course), that shouldn't be operating on gear shifts!
Next relay in is rear de-froster;
Can't see anything using the third position, but net is a bit slow out here!
