Bleeding hell , please help

Post by Gasy » Mon Jul 21, 2014 7:31 pm

Hi all and thanks

Right I had a slight weep on the colorant pipe work at the T piece under driver seat to rear heater

I have cut this out and repaired
I gave the system a good flush out with the hose
Filled with new antifreeze g12 red/pink 6 litres ,got up to temp see sawed etc etc etc
Watched vids over and over

This was yesterday , when I travelled home after a journey of 15 miles
My bongo( diesel ) was running hotter than usual , on my head temp display 90-92c rather than 82-84 like before???

So I was not happy

Right so tonight I have given the bleeding another go

Sometimes when I was reving engine during bleeding the water in the funnel went Up ???

I took it for a run it was sitting at 90c when bleeding (headtemp) went and put me foot down on dual carriage way, temp dropped to 84 going hard, I started to smile

Thought I would drive back thro town temp went up to 90c usually at 84 86 ish
When at a stand still hea e went up to 91c

Now it never used increase in traffic to that high a temp

Advice good or bad welcome
Do you think I need to do more bleeding
I'm a plumber and have been sorting air locks in central heating systems for 20 odd years
But I can get no more air out the bongo
Never seemed to get any big burps
If I squeeze all hoses water level moves in funnel and header tank
Help please
Goingdevon in 2 weeks with caravan on back
Could do with out this
Cheers gasy

How thoroughly did you flush the system and which pipes were disconnected and used for reverse flushing? Any sign of a frothy substance in the header tank? Reason for asking is that I recently changed antifreeze types and it took best part of an hour with a hosepipe to get it to the point where there was no blue tinge from the old stuff. That was using four different points to get water in and out.

Yes I changed from green to red
I flushed thro all 3 tee outlets under seat
Through rad top
Through vent pipe and header tank
Filled bongo with just water ran up to temp drained and flushed again from all points mentioned above again
Filled up with water ran and ran and flushed again
This took well over 2 hours and there was no tinge of blue / green left

Thanks

No froth
Just small particles out after flush not much to worry about looked like abit of sand

after the stat opens and the bongo is revved the funnel does fill. its only before the stat opens that the funnel empties.

it sounds like you may have air in one of the heaters or poor flow at least, check the in and out temps on the pipes when hot. did you check the temps of the heaters during bleeding, this can give clues while the bleeding is going on.

The bottom hose to rad was hot
I don't know what to do next
I will take it for another run tomorrow after work and maybe bleed again?

I'm thinking poor circulation
But inside of pipes were lovely and clean
Less than a teaspoon of sand like particles came out when flushing

Perhaps the green coolant was more efficient at transferring heat.....

Ithe green was definitely a stronger colour

Don't know if that means a stronger mix
I added 6 litres of red
But I did drop funnel twice
And added more water
Tank did overflow a couple of times
And added more water only less than a litre each time
Maybe my red is now a week mix

Will run it again tomorrow and watch temps

They are a constant set of temp readings
And always same amount above old readings

Temp does drop on a fast run on dual carriage way

Just rises higher than old on standstill

Could be a weak / poor quality antifreeze

Cheers

Hi again
Right I've taken it for a run again
Still the same I'm a present bleeding it again
Seems ok on a fast run sits at 84-86c head temp
But in traffic goes up to 90c it never used to do this

Have drained header and got another 1 litre of red in it
So strength should be good
Did squeeze big hose to top rad and see a bubble go into header
But can get no bubbles at vent pipe or anymore bubbles

Any advice
.??.

Hmm, mine has never wavered from the range 92-98. The alarm is set to 105, as in traffic will hit 100 on occasion. I've noticed on a few threads, mine does seem to be hotter than most. (4wd diesel)

What colour / age is your antifreeze roo
Where is your temp sensor fitted
There does seem to be a temp range from 80c to low 90c with different bongos
