Leisure battery busbar

Post by dobby » Fri Jun 13, 2014 8:38 pm

Hi

The battery terminals on the LB are getting a bit crowded. I've used wing nut terminal connectors which have a long bolt for multiple connections but have now fitted a solar panel, an inverter and a separate feed to fuse box to feed the bypass for the interior circuits. I'm looking a simple bus bar solution. Has anyone done similar?

Cheers

Why not just fit a larger fusebox for all the feeds? All the cables need fusing close to the battery, so a single feed to the fusebox and then all loads abd sources can connect via a suitable fuse ?

I just used an original one from a starter battery, with a slight bit of modification it fits onto the LB wingnut connection & there are already fuses there.

I did think about a larger fuse box, post mounted but I was hoping for a neater marine type arrangement. Also, with the larger fuse box idea I suspect I'd be fusing fuses? I was thinking that a drilled brass strip would suffice?

May just go for these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291065995274

No need to fuse fuses, you just common all the fuses on oneside and then fit it close to the battery, you can get the boxes in all sorts of sizes and combinations and several types are 'stackable' end to end. See here http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... lders1.php

YOu can get this kind of fuse box with a common bus, though they always seems to be from China. No problem if you can wait

Or UK standard ones:

and then solder a thick wire across all the terminals on one side to make a common power rail.

Thanks

I was toying with this for the heavier feeds.

Going to draw the circuits up and put some logic to it. I've ended up with spaghetti junction at the LB.

If you have any load or supply exceeding 30Amps I'd be very surprised on a L/B about the only thing would be an Inverter, by bringing all the feeds to the same fuse box with a common bus then most of the currents will balance out with only the difference coming from the battery itself.

Yes, the inverter is a small one and the solar power feed is 5 to 6 amps.
