Towbars

Hi, i'm thinking of putting a towbar on the Bongo and am wondering if the mounting points are already drilled or is it more technical than this ?, also is it possible to buy the OE electrics and they just plug in or again more complicated than this, many thanks Andy.

The mounting points have captive threaded nuts, so fitting is relatively easy. Mine also required removing the trim just inside the boot to drill a vertical hole for additional support. The towing point at the rear offside is removed. The electrics need to be wired in to one or other of the rear clusters - mine came with Scotch clips but if you can do a better job, then do so! You'll typically need one wire to feed from the opposite side for the "other" indicator. If you're charging a caravan LB then you may need to run an additional wire from the front. Note that part of the chassis I think is spot-welded only - if you're going to be towing a lot, then some folk have this seam welded. Hope some of this helps - a search on the forum should throw up several more threads.

I don't feel confident enough to fit a towbar myself, but all the fitters I've contacted so far say they can't / won't fit one. Any ideas where I can get one fitted? - I live in Kent.

It's not a tricky job if you are confident with the spanners and don't mind drilling a few big holes in the chassis. Surprised no fitters are interested as a quick google indicates Towsure will do it at your home or workplace: http://www.towsure.com/category/Mazda_Bongo_Towbars

I know if I bought the tow at and did it my self I was only saving about £50
So let them do it
Lad in a car turned up and was done within the hour
Obviously not the first bongo he had done
Carnt see where cables are run or buzzer etc
Tidy job
And did me a rear number plate for caravan
