Tailgate spoiler brake light

Hi, I recently acquired and fitted a tailgate spoiler to my 2000 reg Bongo from a breakers. The spoiler was very grubby and cleaned up almost like new. Fitted it and it looks good - then discovered the spoiler brake light doesn't work. Took out the light fitting and it appears to be a strip of LEDs encased in red plastic with a couple of wires (I assume live and earth) . Connected a meter across the wires and there is a break in the circuit somewhere.

Anyone know if the LED units are serviceable (doesn't seem to come apart) or where I can get a new replacement from? (They aren't in the shop)

Thanks for that, must've keyed some rubbish into the search engine. (I only got part of the thread). Looks like the 626/eBay option is the way to go.

if your searching for several words-------brake light,put and between each word, it finds results better.

If you used a normal multimeter then it will not show any resistance reading. Try connecting to a 12volt supply and check that it works that way.

Thanks Geoff, didn't realise that it won't show any resistance. I had connected to a 12v supply first and checked that all the electrical connections were ok. The whole unit was dead - that came as a surprise! Having said that, it looked like the spoiler had spent a lot of time in serious dampness - had to use rubbing compound to get the cr*p off.

Looked well when I'd finished apart from the dead LED.

Shame there doesn't seem to be much 626 spoiler stuff on eBay

Have you tried connecting 12v the other way round? LEDs are normally polarity sensitive so will only work one way round.

Thanks Simon, yep - I'd seen the polarity mentioned on various forums. Sadly mine remains unresponsive.
