Broken tyre valve stem

Post by the1andonly » Sat Apr 05, 2014 6:17 pm

I was just checking tyre pressures when the tyre valve broke off just bellow the threads. now the bongo has alloys. No tyre place open at 4:30 on a saturday had one. special Japanese ones?. Any clue as to what national chains that my be open tomorrow that have been known to stock them? Is it something so rare that I need to carry a spare?

There should be some tyre depots open near you, I can't think a valve should be too rare, but good luck. :)

Is this the Type of valve you are looking for..

http://shop.mwsint.com/product_details.asp?id=712

This is the first type of valve to be used when tubeless tyres where introduced, then they started to use the rubber ones.

Just a bit of useless information. :)

No problem, it was the Type of valve that I was referring, I do not know the actual size on your alloys, they call me rita not mystic Meg.

This was one problem i wasn't expecting and due to the lack of knowledge/ stock in mainstream tyre dealers in Northampton and Cardiff I will carry a spare along with the fuses. Phoned Rob at the famous Sardis RD tyres Pontypridd "need to see it" so 10 miles later: yes hens teeth I had some in the past on special order, no haven't got any left.

Any one with alloy wheels on their Bongo from import should concider indentifying the valve at a tyre change and get a spare, not quite hens teeth but as good as in the mainstream.
Thanks to winchman for the offer of his spare and to Betty (i mean mystic Rita) for a top Ebay link. Parts ordered yesterday about 9 am delivered today (7 quid the pair inc delivery).
will need to do a trial fit, overall length of new 40mm

Glad you are sorted
I bought some nice 17" alloys so as my 15" were tatty I weighed them in but for some reason took the valves off.
I will check my new alloys and carry a spare in the box of bits in case of a problem

Just to close this thread
my original valve stem was 45mm long
the part from nuts4wheels on ebay is 40mm long

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-X-6mm-Tire- ... 4897.l5668

has been successfully fitted (with tyre)

anybody know what a split infinitive is?

It's when an adverb or adverbial phrase is placed between to and the verb. Most famous example is "to boldly go" which should really be "to go boldly".
