Flashing glow plug light

Post by uncle monty » Tue Dec 31, 2013 5:44 pm

Merry Christmas fellow Bongo lovers, and a happy New year to you all :) Took the Bongo on a run earlier and the glow plug light started flashing and the radio went off. There was a lot of surface water which I guess was to blame. Has anyone else had this issue? Which relay/contact etc do I need to zap with the wd40 to prevent it happening again?

If the Radio went off and the Glow plug light started flashing then suspect either of these fuses;

If it's not a fuse, then have a read of the diagnostic factsheet:

Thanks guys. The fuse shown top left is missing, what does this one do? Not noticed anything not working, just intermittent fault with the stereo?

Do you have a leisure battery set up

There's a list here: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... lit=Fuse+1

Sounds like someone may have connected it to the leisure battery (if you have one) to run the interior lights which could cause issues with ECU should the LB battery drop too much.

Hmmm, I do have a leisure battery with dual charge circuit, but i am not 100% convinced it is in top shape. The interior lights are very dull. Tried charging the LB but made no difference, i think it is a maintenance free one. It has Japanese writing all over, think it may be the original Battery so is now 18 years old. Sorry for my ignorance but should I replace the 10A fuse in fuse 1 slot or has it been rewired into the LB circuit?

If the interior lights are running dimly with no fuse, then it would suggest they have been wired to the LB. If you refit fuse 1 it will connect the two batteries in parallel which will probably blow the fuse. If you have a multimeter, check the voltage across the LB with engine off (should be around 12v) and then start the engine and check after a minute or so and it should be around 13 - 14v. If it's not charging then, locate the fuse for the split charge as that may have blown. If the LB voltage is low and not being charged, that would explain the flashing glow plug light and you may start to experience issues with engine and gearbox ultimately resulting in a non-running Bongo :(.

Crap that doesn't sound good :( What kind of issues? She runs a treat at the moment...? Flashing glow plug light was a one off and happened just after we had driven through a large puddle.

If the engine and gearbox ECU voltage drops too low, the engine / gearbox won't function. If the light has gone away now then it's probably fine if every thing else seems to be in order. Out of interest, is it the rear fluorescent lamp in the roof that is dim? If so, it could be a simple as fitting a new bulb as the output does drop as it ages.

Yes that's the one. It comes on but is very dim. The courtesy lights in the front are fine. I have a mutimeter i borrowed from work, will have a play tomorrow and check out the voltage etc. Once I work out how to use the damn thing..! Thanks for your help, will let you know how I get on.

sounds like your issues are linked to your other thread, melted fuse box...
