Gears gone nuts need Bongo mechanic around Eastbourne area!

Post by HappyHooligan » Thu Nov 21, 2013 12:03 pm

Hi,
my Bongos gear box had a fit the other day and made a lot of noise and the gears seemed to slip. I stopped and waited for a bit as I thought the gearbox had died and then it was okay again! I've noticed though that it doesn't go into gear straight away and revs a lot before going into the next high gear (like when the clutch goes on a manual).
My usual mechanic doesn't want to go near it so I'm hoping to get a recommendation for a decent Bongo mechanic around the Eastbourne (East Sussex) area?
Also my springs need replacing. Can anyone prepare me with a rough cost as to what damage this will do to my bank account??? I'm might sell it if it's too much :(

Thanks in advance,

Maybe off track .. but about 10 years ago I had the autobox on my Omega serviced by a local auto box specialist .. he did it while I waited (and watched)..

The mechanic dropped the boxes sump cleaned every thing .. including valve blocks .. replaced filters ....... and .. nipped up the clutch bands ..

This sequence seemed to be .. tightening the relevant locking bolts to a set torque .. then backing them off slightly ..

I remember when driving off .. how the box felt like brand new ..

Hi

sorry about your gearbox blues, Can't help you with the box but I have some information about a guy who manufactures springs to order and gave me a price for Bongo ones. YVery reasonable compared to Mazda and Bongo shop prices. You can actually specify in terms of length and ride comfort ,hard, soft etc, Unfortunately it's on my other computer in favourites so if you can hang on a while I will post you the link.

Someone else will probably beat me to it anyway.
