Did you fill the new filter with fuel before fitting?

If your fuel filter body does not have a primer pump on the top (lots don't), then it can take a full minute or more of cranking to start with a dry filter. Filling with fuel first should reduce the time.

Diesel or petrol? If the former, keep spinning it over on the starter and assuming you don't have a leak around the filter seal, it should eventually start. If petrol, turn ignition on and off a few times to allow the fuel pump to repressurise the fuel lines.

I guess you have a diesel engine then . Glad it's all sorted now. For next time, fill the empty filter with some injector cleaner to give the system a good clean out when it starts up.
