only starts with spray....dummies guide please :)

Post by papillon » Mon Jan 28, 2013 9:19 pm

hi,
Having problems starting bongo when cold...... It will only start with 'easy start' spray.

I have checked the glow plug rail and there doesn't appear to be any voltage. I have tried this with ignition on and off.

I don't have a 'cold start' switch in cab.

I am not sure how to check if 'glow plug relay' is working.

I will check the glow plug fuse 2moro.

Is it necessary to disconnect battery at any particular stage?

When I start it with spray there is white smoke for a few seconds.

It's an N reg diesel 2.5 automatic.

Well .....any advice would be greatly appreciated and as is probably obvious...I am a complete novice.

thanks

Don't use the spray too often it's not good for the engine. I have a petrol V6 but posts will follow from others re the glow plugs etc.

You must get power to the glow rail.........the fuse is just a thick wire that you will find connected to the pos battery terminal
The relay is on the inside wheel arch behind and to the side if the starter battery.
I think there is another normal fuse in the fuse box.
Odds are one of these 3 components are the problem

You should hear it clicking, if it's working.

There are several fuses associated with the glowplugs but have just responded to your PM so more details there.
