Well, decided Purple Pixie needed an oil change....
Read the factsheets on oil types and how to change a filter and do an oil change and....
Discovered the oil collection container I had would just slide under the plastic guard under the van without jacking it up - eyeballed it in place down through the engine bay
Discovered the sump plug was finger tight! (this follows on logically from the loose spark plug) the seller of our Bongo should employ more itinerant service crew.... we had a bloke called Finger Tight Malcolm http://www.dummett.net/ime/website/ime/ ... lcolm.html in Mini circles who once fitted a flywheel lock nut (150 lb/ft) ... finger tight.... it fell off, and used a 1p as a spacer in a front suspension unit... the wheel fell off
The oil came out as it always does regardless of how you do it.. 95% captive 5% on the drive, rags helped not to splash out of the filter though.....
New sump plug and washer (thanks Ian) put in place with circa 40 NM of torque (with a torque wrench... I once stripped a mini sump plug (steel plug in alloy threaded sump )
Then Filter in place hand tight (thank you Ian)
Oil went in by the litre ( 4of via Helens 1 litre pyrex jug - now in the dishwasher on INTENSIVE) used a coolant funnel to fill the engine but the use of a jug with more of a spout might have saved a few splashes.... sadly I had only 2 part containers of halfords 10/40 semi-synthetic left over from when my Mini engine used thin oil, I could have glugged in 4l straight out of a new can via its built in spout.... far easier
Then nail biting bit..... hoping the oil pressure ( aka lack of pressure <5psi) light goes out..... it did
Tomorrow, check oil level / check water level / put a nice little DYMO LETRA TAG label somewhere "oil change due xxxxxxx"
Will open the filter and have a better look at the used oil (brown and opaque) tomorrow
