Coolant (again)

Post by Gripped » Mon Nov 05, 2012 8:38 pm

Radiator has gone for a burton :x so fitting a new one tomorrow following Haydn and Kirsty's youtube method :D . Just a quick question though..

How much coolant (litres) and what sort do I need?

I plan to rinse through the whole system with clean water, before refilling with 50:50 coolant/water mix.

Thanks !!

Factsheet should answer your queries:

The capacity is 13 litres, but unless you use a compressor to blow all the liquid out the system, then you'll probably only get about 6 or 7 litres back in again.

Off the top of my head I think it is about 13L mixed. Red seems to be the preferred choice. I am going to use Halfords Pre diluted next time because I live in a hard water area and I think I reckoned on buying 4X4 litres. If you change type, make sure you flush all the old stuff out.

Thanks for that - seems that I don't have the latest password for the members area... and Ian's on holiday. Will wait til he gets back to renew membership.

Hi,5 litres should be plenty unless you intend to go to Antarctica.

Yes, good point teenmal: total capacity of system is 13 litres, but you can get away with just putting 5 litres of coolant after draining & flushing. Personally, I'd pour it in neat to the expansion tank & then fill up with plain water. There's no point in premixing it with water as you cannot predict exactly how much you will need, so will end up watering it down too much.
