Help needed

Post by germag » Sun Oct 07, 2012 8:33 pm

Hi all
New to the forum and looking to buy a Bongo.

Have a few questions hope somebody can help.

Drove a Bongo this weekend and its fantastic, but a few niggles.

Left it tickover for 20 minutes and the top hose got very hot, is this normal?
And i think it has a low coolant alarm fitted but i could not hear any bleeps or see any flashing light, does this sound right?

The owner said it has had a new cylinder head in the past and has 141,000 on the odo, is this miles or klms

Sorry for all the questions on my first post but i dont want to buy a heap of trouble.

If someone can shed light on the above i would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance

Yes - perfectly normal. The top hose carries coolant directly from the cylinder head so this is coolant at its hottest.

Not competent enough myself to answer your other questions but someone will be along shortly who does know the answers.

If the owner says that it's had a cylinder head then the owner will have a reciept for between 12 to 1500 ££££££ If he's "lost the reciept" then get the name of the garage and pop down there with the reg number and the garage will have it on their database   141000 kms is about 88000 miles.

If in doubt then walk away there is plenty to chose from :D

Low coolant alarm should beep and flash for a second when you turn on the ingition, then be silent if all is well.

Welcome aboard. :)
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Haydn's device does but the other design that used a float chamber and appeared on Ebay doesn't give a test bleep.
