V6 starting problems

I've replaced dizzy, rotor arm, HT leads coil and igniter and my V6 still fails to start.

I do get what appears to be unburnt fuel on my plugs so had assumed fuel delivery wasn't a problem.

The van had cut out a few miles from home after a long journey mainly at motorway speeds. It cut out on the approach to a roundabout and I only noticed when I tried to take off. The van restarted but with a bad misfire and since being transported home fails to start. I've checked the breather under the drivers seat which seems to work but had some gunk in it. It was also very low on fuel when it cut out and I wonder whether I have crud in the system or an air lock perhaps. When removing the fuel filler cap I don't get the pressure release I used to notice.

Any thoughts - airlock ? If so any advice on how to bleed ?

Having trawled these posts for the past two weeks I realise there are many possible diagnoses.

Are you getting a spark on at the plugs? Unscrew a plug, reconnect HT lead and the turn it over on the starter while the plug is earthed to the engine. If spark is ok, then unless the timing is off, that only leaves air and fuel to check. There is a fuel pump in the tank, so it may be worth pulling the carpet up and removing the inspection hatch over the tank. From there you could either stick 12V direct into the pump, or remove the complete unit with the sender. There is a filter on the end of the pickup tube, so it be worth checking / cleaning that.

There is also the crankshaft sensor which has been known to fail. See recent post by Julian AKA 321Away.

Yes I get a spark and the plugs look like they are getting fuelled

I have been in touch with Adrian but just waiting for a free slot as he has been really busy and so i've been trying the more simplistic / easier to get to stuff just in case. Hoping to get the van across this week.
