side door wont open

Post by Pennycooks » Mon Aug 27, 2012 10:26 pm

we have a problem the side door will not open. The central locking seems to be working fine in that the knob is going up and down, but the door just wont open. I have banged it with a plastic mallet inside and out and nothing.silly question but is it linked to the electrics, could it be a blown fuse?? HELP PLEASE. :(

take it for a spin round the block, over speed bumps is best.
if that doesnt work, inside towards the front edge, low down a big flat hand slap usually does the trick.
after that its the panel inside off, remove hard plastic trim, remove handle, remove card trim then look for the cable that comes from the back edge of the door, it fastens to the central locking bit, push this towards the front of the door.WATCH YER FINGERS. you will hear the lecky bit engage then it should be ok.

Hi,
Just as a matter of interest, was the battery disconnected or flat before this problem problem occurred.

Cheers.

yes we have had problems with the battery being drained, that is another problem i need to sort. I have had some success this evening though. We tried thumping it, tried disconnecting the battery, tried speed bumps. Nothing. Then i got down to the nitty gritty and took the inside panel off, I couldn't get the handle off, but i pulled the panel back and and took a thin lump of wood and pushed down on the gears, and after a while it freed up and now we have a functioning door. Had a beer to celebrate and i am now breathing a sigh of relief. thanks Everyone!!! :D

Glad you got there in the end. Info here on removing the door handle (in case you ever need it):

We thought we had this problem when we couldn't get out of our bongo one morning. Eventually found that the little people had been playing with the child lock!
